Since he started his business in 1910, AJ Gahn, his wife Rose, and their family and employees worked to bring the finest meat products to the most discerning customers. Originally a specialty meat market in Milwaukee’s East Side neighborhood, the Gahn Meat Company gained a reputation throughout the city for quality products and good value. The same intuition and dogged determination that brought AJ’s parents to America would power his business through the years of prohibition and both World Wars.

After World War II ended, AJ and Rose’s sons Norman and Anthony finished their tours of duty with the US Army and US Navy, graduated from college, and joined the family business. They expanded their strategy to include distribution to wholesale customers; the same quality products and customer satisfaction enjoyed by retail customers was now available to the chefs and kitchens of all sizes in Milwaukee’s best restaurants.

Demonstrating continued agility in the marketplace, Anthony and his son Tony shifted their business focus entirely to wholesale distribution and the hospitality industry in 1981. They closed their last retail shop and moved production and operations to an 18,000 square foot facility in Milwaukee’s Sherman Park neighborhood. This brought new opportunities for growth and service through custom ground beef and sausage, high-volume contract work and ready-to-serve products based on Gahn family recipes.
